Carbon Motors Corporation has unveiled the Carbon 'E7' today. Tagged as the world's first purpose-built law enforcement vehicle, the E7 embarks on a nine city U.S. tour culminating at the 115th Annual International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference in San Diego, California where over 15,000 senior law enforcement professionals will gather from all around the world. The overall concept of the E7 is to move away from retrofitting a standard passenger production vehicle to law enforcement specs, and instead provide a vehicle designed and engineered from the ground up specifically for law enforcement purposes.

With the voluntary input of over 1,700 law enforcement professionals, the vehicle will come fully equipped with technological and design elements including an ergonomically correct cockpit inspired by jet fighters and helicopters, a high powered clean-diesel engine capable of running on biodiesel, integrated external and internal surveillance capabilities, radar, LoJack, an automatic license plate recognition system, radiation and biological threat detectors and 360 degree, highly noticeable built-in LED emergency lighting. In addition, the 'E7' debuts Carbon's proprietary On-board Rapid Command Architecture (ORCA) with a large touch-screen main display and a separate touch screen keyboard providing world-class data communication and human-machine interface. BMW will be supplying diesel engines to US police car maker Carbon Motors.

Carbon Motors Corp. is a US manufacturer which exclusively builds law enforcement vehicles for police departments and government agencies in the United States. Carbon Motors has now opted to equip its vehicles with diesel engines to help reduce the CO2 emissions of law enforcement vehicles and make its product more lucrative to prospective buyers.

BMW will be supplying Carbon Motors with (inline) six-cylinder diesel engines as well as the the entire cooling and exhaust systems for the motor. The deal also includes BMW supplying the automatic transmissions to mate to the diesel powerplants.

Ian Robertson, director of Sales and Marketing at BMW AG, said that around 13,000 or 14,000 orders had already been placed for police cars for which BMW will be supplying the powertrain. Robertson said BMW will be providing the most advanced diesel technology in the world to Carbon Motors, including BMW EfficientDynamics technology which has become standard in all BMW models and improves the fuel efficiency of its vehicles.

Carbon Motors will be using the nine-city 2008 Pure Justice tour of the U.S. as an avenue for unveiling its all-new E7 purpose-built police car.

The E7 hasn't even secured its final name yet - Carbon Motors will be relying on the law enforcement community to choose a name for the vehicle ahead of production. Nevertheless, the car is looking more like a real product that could actually come to market, and judging by the reception of the police community, the vehicle will be on at least some city streets in the near future.

The tour to promote the car kicked off in Chicago next Monday, October 14, offering the first public glimpse of the car. The reveal at the 115th International Association of Police Chiefs convention today gives the best view of ...
