Introduction

Immigration has become an important issue because it affects virtually every aspect of life in America. With more than a million legal and illegal immigrants settling in the United States each year, immigration has an impact on education, health care, government budgets, employment, the environment, crime and countless other areas of American life. It is evident to most Americans that large-scale immigration is not serving the needs and interests of the country. This paper focuses on the past and current issues faced by legal or illegal women immigrants in a holistic context.

How this is a women's issue

Regularly, when studying the migration of women to the United States, we immediately associate it to male migration, arguing that her migration is possible only to accompany her husband, father or brother, and not as conducting own decision. We present an invisibility gradually being overcome. Fortunately, this traditional view is gradually going to a second term to accommodate the works that consider migrant women as objects of study. From the eighties to the present, specific studies on the female migration has been increasing, especially those trying to analysis of migrant women in destination as well as exploratory studies about the women deported by human rights organizations in the northern border. Do not forget that the world of the undocumented migrant women those women who do make it across and are found in U.S. also those who failed in his attempt and failed to cross, and those that lost their lives in their journey. This section presents an approach of migrant women, to go building a profile that allows us to have greater insight to this population rarely studied and, above all, hardly taken into account in the analysis of migration (Linda & Jane 2003, 245).

The issue in today's context

Currently, the strengthening of state security policies in United States, involve a threat to the human rights of immigrants, includes legal immigrants. Due to this condition, number of people has decide migrate to another country, maybe this is related to the search of improved living standards, as a result of uncompetitive government of ensure social welfare, of course it is the duty of government of United States to ensure safety and welfare of female immigrants, including employment and there should be no compromise on this issue. The result of travel to other countries is search of opportunities. These aspects are not only current processes, but these, have been building through the decades, with a poor distribution of wealth and of course the complex government policies that impede the country's economic growth. The illegal migration to the United States is a consequence of the above issues, so that the violation of human rights and discrimination are triggered a new reality which the United States issued decades ago. The violation of human rights includes concepts such as discrimination, racism, domestic violence to women and xenophobia (Cumming 2004, 117).
