Introduction

This paper briefly discusses the portrait that is developed of Jesus in the passages of Colossians, Philippians and Hebrews in the New Testament, how people considered him a God or an image of God with passage of time, how ideas evolved from person to person and how these passages are similar or dissimilar from the portraits developed by Matthew, Mark and Luke in their gospels.

Colossians 1:15-20

Reading the passage from the Colossians, it can be determined that the Church had lessened its focus on the Christ. The Colosse believers had lost the connections with the Jesus Christ and some people started worshipping the angels instead, thus neglecting Jesus Christ. This situation led to a renovation of the connection that has to be established with Jesus Christ.

According to the verses, Jesus Christ is an image of God that is invisible and it is assumed that the image and the original are not the same (www.biblicalunitarian.com). The Father is simply called God at many places. On the other hand, it is also suggested that the Christ is an expression of God and this thing has been described 23 times in the New Testament.

However, all the things are described as images in Christianity to differentiate them from their original source. Similarly, as Jesus Christ is known as the image of God, then common people are also His image. But the man is a sinful person, still man is known as the image of God in the Bible (www.biblicalunitarian.com). Therefore, Christ and man are both called with the same titles. The meaning of image is the resemblance of existence and thus it is used to refer to Christ and the Christians as images of God.

God has given authority to Christ to create something and a new man out of the unbelievers and Jesus has changed their nature with his firm control. The Church was created by the new man who was created out of Jew and the Gentile. It is an assumption that the Christ is a God looking at the verses of the Colossians, however with “all” the verse refers to everything. The reader when reading the Bible must determine if “all” refers to something wide or something narrow in the universe. It is visible that the narrow side is used the Colossian (www.biblicalunitarian.com).
