Introduction

Today, the media is a persuasive tool to allow us to stay in constant communication with the various social events, political and economic both nationally and internationally. Mass media like press, television and the Internet are an indispensable part of our society today. Secondary functions for the economic system (example: promotions) and society (example: teaching of values and norms as well as entertainment), the media plays a major political role to monitor the media and control the different branches of government (judicial, legislative and executive) information, citizens and contribute to their education and political opinion. News and views expressed by media have profound impact on public's perception. A misreported fact, a program conflicting with culture and norms of society by a media entity can bring detriment to that organization. Therefore stakes are and conversely media faces a lot of challenges that need to be addressed in today's dynamic environment in order for successful performance of media organization and overall public welfare. In this research paper consideration has been given to the biggest challenges facing the contemporary news media landscape and its relationship with the public (Deuze, 2002).

This paper discusses how contemporary media is facing the biggest challenges in maintain their public relations.

There are many and varied challenges facing the media in US. The educational status, economic and geographical situation of this state, is now combined with the climate of social confrontation resulting tension and political conflict that exists, which represents a profound shock to the conscience of all the inhabitants but also leads us to consider the need for new ways to communicate, to be freer, more honest, more independent, more security guarantees, and especially with a greater adherence to the law (Carney, 2002).

Contemporary news media broadly consists of electronic and social media. In modern era when advancement in technology is happening at a remarkable pace, that is impetus for development of modern electronic media has given rise to a number of challenges to the contemporary news media in managing public relations (Duhe, 2007)

Newspapers and magazines readership are facing a declining trend whereas, online sources for news are booming

People do not prefer reading newspaper nowadays due to variety of TV channels and online sources for news broadcasting being available conveniently and at minimum cost. Social media is expanding due to increased use of gadgets by people. Popular platforms are Twitter, Facebook, Google plus, etc. (Fenton, 2009).

The protection of public opinion is quite natural desire of the applicants for the power to manipulate, to get recognition and support. Today's society has the chance to protect themselves from coming to power of organized crime and lobbying financial-industrial groups.
