CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Project Introduction

The topic chosen for the research is diet and the misconception that one could get thin with the help of dieting. This dissertation would serve as a guide for the people to improve their concepts about dieting and why women sabotage their diet for the sake of getting slim or losing weight. This research would focus over the western women residing in United Kingdom, looking at various aspects of dieting in their routine and they regain weight and then again diet for weight loss. As a result, dieting pattern make them even double the size of what they initially were. Further, this research would take into account the body image and diet habits of women prevailing in United Kingdom, in both psychological and sociological aspects.

Rationale

Relapse and obesity after dieting, has constantly been posing significant threats to many women in United Kingdom. Resistance of women to leave dieting and believing that dieting makes you thinner is a myth, is of serious consideration. High rates of relapse and reluctance for treatments is making this problem even a bigger concern for the practitioners as well as the patients.

The evidence of keeping weight off related to dismissal prognosis is available in statistics. Within three to five years, lost weight is regained by users after dieting, according to leading obesity researchers. A very few people are aware about obesity perpetuation and the reason of people relapsing back to their original weight after successful weight loss. Additionally, there is very little knowledge about people regain their weight after weight loss, actual relapse mechanism, or many of the psychological, physical and environmental factors. These factors contribute to development of relapse mechanism. All these facts points to the necessity of more comprehensive understanding related to relapse of obesity and the myths of dieting.

The objective of this dissertation is to argue and prove the point that constant dieting body image obsession makes women put on more weight rather than losing and keeping it off that is achieved with the help of healthy eating and lifestyle changes. This paper would look at the body image, ...
