Immigration has both good and bad effects on the economy and the workers of the host country that can be difficult to separate out. On one hand, immigration adds to labour resources and thus to the capacity for economic growth. Growth increases national income and potentially raises living standards. Immigrants take jobs that Americans do not want and produce goods and services that otherwise would not be produced; that generates income for Americans as well as for immigrants.

The topic of my dissertation is regarding the implementation of the United Kingdom Border Agency's immigration laws. These laws are being proved as discriminatory towards the nationals of a few countries, which include Pakistan, Bangladesh and India. It is seen that the Border Agency of UK discriminates against the customers who apply from Pakistan for clearance to the United Kingdom. According to John Vine's statement, an employee who works as a chief inspector at the Border Agency of UK, act of discrimination has been seen against the Pakistani applicants.

The immigration rules already require that the applicant can be maintained and accommodated without recourse to public funds. The visa or grant of leave to remain will clearly show that a successful applicant does not have recourse to public funds.

Although this will only be the starting point of my dissertation, further in my dissertation I will argue regarding the implementation of certain immigration laws is discriminatory, I will also be looking at certain more specific laws and their application which may not be related to direct discrimination but arguably can be seen as a form of indirect discrimination.
