Interactive Education

The game is an online interactive simulation. There are several areas that are commonly seen by children. While they go outside, they see items that belong at a supermarket, objects that are at home, farm items, aquarium objects, stuff at the airport, and items at a firehouse. The purpose of this game is to improve the vocabulary of young children by giving them visual, colourful pictures to identify what belongs in what location. As soon as they put the right item in the right place, the computer comments and tells them they did a good job. This way, children can establish linkages in words they are learning, associating them with locations they see every day.

The image above demonstrates the idea behind the game. Utilizing this concept, educational learning can be done in a fun manner that involves the child an interactive process of gaining knowledge. A woman's voice is utilized primarily since a child associates better with a friendly, motherly voice as compared to a father. As each image is selected, there is audio that states what the picture represents. For example, the image below shows the zoo and various items around the area. The child needs to learn which items go inside the box and belong to the zoo. Animals in the image go inside the zoo.

Resource Creation

The online, interactive game was made in order to educate the child with knowledge as well as give a pleasant and happy atmosphere for learning. Through the various pictures, sounds, and colouring, the child could gain vast knowledge and starts developing relationships between objects. There has been various researches conducted which support the use of interactive games to educate a young child in developing their mental processes.

Review

When the interactive was tested on various children, it was found that it is extremely entertaining and that every single child enjoys the colour, sounds, and images of objects. It was observed that children display a lot of learning just one week into the evaluation of the programme. More significant evaluation needs to be conducted in order to see how effective the implementation of the game is on children. It needs to be determined if whether children actually are learning and retaining the data gathered or are they just enjoying themselves.

Further studies done on children indicate that shaping the child with various experiences can reflect on the stimulation of the mind. This means, if the mind of a child has enough desire and attraction on the game in front, the learning takes place simultaneously. A study conducted on children playing games (baseball) illustrates that a child gains various skills through experience. It was witnessed in the study that children were gaining attributes such as fair play, endurance, agility, and resilience. This further supports that a game can actually stimulate the child's mind into learning (Launder and Wendy 2006, p. 47-57).
