Effective Interpersonal communication skills between healthcare providers and the consumer clearly play an important role in the delivery of healthcare services in the human services setting.


Better communication with people at all levels enables it to recognize the most important problems and find common ground for common action, and creates a climate of ownership and participation to implement its decisions. Communication is also essential to improve coordination and teamwork to manage development programs and get institutional support. We live in an age of communication and, we are beginning to see its impact on healthcare services and institutions.


The role played by the effective methods of communication in healthcare has improved the industry to a significant position. Healthcare communication is a major responsibility that requires maintaining relations between all the stakeholders within the healthcare ecological unit. A healthcare employee, despite the profession and educational level, must understand that by escalating their interaction skills and utilizing them to carry out their daily tasks, improving their health care and interpersonal relationships (Thompson, et.al 2003).

Communication in the healthcare services can be critically important to promote human serrvices and development in the new climate of social change today. The survival of the healthcare services depends upon an effective calloborative communication placed by the doctors, specialists, nurses, insurance companies and many other individuals (Diamond, 1995). Effective Interpersonal communication is the binding force that holds the healthcare industry together.

Healthcare service is relatively different to the other fields because it does not only involve sharing of ideas but it also involves the plans of new treatment or it may involve educating a patient about the need for particulars. The task involved for the effective communication for clinicians encompasses empathy, engagement, education and enlistment [Mock, 2001; Seidel, 2004].

According to their description the engagement can be defined as the connection on the personal level, while the process of education involves inquiring about what information does the patient already had and what information he lacks therefore incorporate the remaining areas on knowledge and education. Enlistment involves the process of getting the patient to buy into his or her medical plan in the hopes of ensuring adherence or compliance [Mock, 2001; Seidel, 2004].
