Abstract

Children of alcoholics and other substance abusers are a community without a clear definition. Because the notion of COA/COSA is focused on the child other than the parent, the delineation of a COA/COSA is any child whose parent (or parental caregiver) uses alcoholic beverage or other drugs in such a way that it causes problems in the child's life. The child may no longer be dwelling with the substance abusing parent because of separation, end wedding ceremony, abandonment, incarceration or death. And the parent does not have to be still dynamically consuming or using for the child to extend to seem the influence of the abuse.

 

Roles children play in the addiction home

In families where alcoholic beverage or other drugs are being abused, demeanor is often unpredictable and connection is unclear. Family life is distinuished by chaos and unpredictability. Behavior cans variety from adoring removing to crazy. Structure and rules may be either nonexistent or inconsistent. Children, who may not understand that their parent's demeanor and feeling is very resolute by the allowance of alcoholic beverage or other drugs in their bloodstream, can seem confused and insecure.(Andrew, 2008) They love their parents and concern about them, and yet seem furious and injure that their parents manage not love them sufficient to stop using.

Despite the suffering these children tolerate, numerous accuse themselves for their parent's substance abuse. They accept as factual it when their parents scream that they wouldn't drink so much or use other drugs if the children didn't battle, or rooms were kept clean or grades were better. Some children trial to command the consuming or pharmaceutical use by getting all A's, or holding the house spic and span, or getting along flawlessly with their siblings. Others remove, wanting not to conceive any disturbance that might cause a parent to drink or use. Few recognize that children will not cause a parent to drink or use drugs, neither can they therapy a parent's substance problem.(Michael, 2007)

Many times, children of substance abusers are frightened. They may be the victims of physical aggression or incest. They may also witness aggression - often alcoholic beverage and other pharmaceutical abuse goes hand in hand with domestic violence. And as a result, these youngsters may suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome, with the same kinds of sleep disturbances, flashbacks, disquiet, and depression that are associated with victims of conflict crimes. (Tetyana, 2003)These children are not only scared for their own well-being - they also harbor the all-too-real anxiety that their parent may get sick or pass away as a result of the consuming or pharmaceutical use.(Michael, 2007) They understand that their parent may propel intoxicated, or get into fights on the street.
