Emergency Plan for Health Care Clinic

Executive Summary

Majority of the modern facilities such as health care clinics, are instructed by the law to maintain certain emergency plans for disastrous events. These events can be the cause of the natural disasters or they may occur due to human error; whatever the case the appropriate facilities must consist of a comprehensive emergency plan, so that the adversities of the calamity can be minimized. This paper will provide the detailed emergency plan, inclusive of comprehensive emergency response procedures which will define the appropriate strategy to cope with an event of fire (Perry & Lindell, 2006). The emergency plan will be focused on the event of a fire and it will present a guideline for the health care facility management team, to take the required steps which will lead to the least costly outcome. Since the biggest risk in a public oriented facility such as a clinic or community hospital, is the loss of human life; it is imperative to establish a fool proof and efficient emergency plan. The paper will examine the potential hazards an event of fire can cause for the health care facility and what actions can be taken to not only minimize the damage, but also establish a system based on preventive measures. Since the health care facilities usually consist of several electronic devices and heavy machineries, and also the inflammable gas cylinders are also present in the facility, the risk of fire is always present. Fire is not always caused by human error; it can also be caused by the natural factors along with technical malfunctions. Hence the paper will define the detailed emergency plans for health care facilities to appropriately handle the event of a fire in the facility; which will not only help save lives, but also how to prevent the calamities and take the appropriate post event actions.

The senior doctors must coordinate with the various departments in the clinic to form the emergency management group. A special representative from the security function will be given the responsibility of the incident commander for the implementation of the incident command center. In case of fire, it would be the task of this individual to ensure that the proper authorities are informed and perform the comprehensive analysis of the situation. The emergency plan which has been developed under the supervision of the senior medical staff in the emergency operation center will have to be enforced by the incident commander in the event of a fire. The commander will assume the most critical responsibility of the emergency procedure, as he will have to ensure that every patient and staff member is safe ...
