1. Breakdown of employees by Gender;

(a) Recode the variable Gender; so 1 = female and 2 = male.

One of the most commonly used transformations is the recoding of variables. As its name suggests, it is to change the values ??(codes) of a variable. This operation can be performed so that the result, i.e. the new codes, staying in a new variable or original variable replacing the former. It is advisable, especially until they gain some control over the management of the program, recoding new variables to avoid problems if we make an error.

From the EmploySat.xls, we have taken the variable “Gender”, the values in this variable is recorded as “1” and “2”. We have recoded these values through Excel by the formula mentioned below:

=LOOKUP(Sheet1!B2,{1,2},{"Female","Male"})

This formula will recode the values provided in the Gender column to male and female. Sometimes for some analysis it is necessary to recode a variable, for example, converting a continuous variable categorical, or merge categories of discrete variables, and so on. Here in this section as changing the values ??for gender in a sample through the recoding of the gender variable.

(b) Produce a Pivot Table of the number of employees by Gender. Remove any missing entries. How many male and female employees took part in the survey?

A PivotTable combines and compares quickly large volumes of data. It allows multi-dimensional analysis of the data to rotate the rows and columns creating different ways to view reports with source data. It converts the data from general to specific.

The pivot table above shows the summary for the variable of Gender; it can be that a total of 1745 respondents took part in the survey. The distribution shows that out of 1745 respondents 911 were female and the remaining 834 were male that were recorded in the survey. Dynamic tables only serve to summarize the data according to the consultation process, but not to model in the table. The option would be to use data from the Excel Pivot Table with Dynamic Data Import function and incorporate them into our model Excel.

(c) Produce another Pivot table to display the percentage breakdown by gender. What are the percentages of men and women working in this part of the pharmaceutical industry? What do you conclude?

A pivot table is a summary of a data set, based on several criteria for grouping, represented as a double entry table which facilitates the interpretation of such data. It is dynamic because it allows us to obtain different total filtering data, changing the presentation of data, displaying or not the data source, and so on.
