Enabling Learning and Assessment (ELA)

Enabling Learning and Assessment (ELA)

Introduction

In this project an attempt is being made in order to research the theories, principles and practices for assessment through assessing the outcomes of learning and learners' achievement by using a range of assessment methods. Thus, in view of the growing importance of assessment, it is vital for the assessors to see that their assessment is up to the requirements of the established standards.

Discussion and Analysis

Since assessment forms an integral part of the teaching and learning system therefore, the principle of it should be to conduct it in a constructive way to guide students in their study. Student perception of what is rewarded and what is ignored exercises a substantial impact on their learning behaviour on the one hand and on the learning outcomes of a course of study on the other. For internal and external quality assurance purpose also, assessment need to be accurate and fair (Heather, 2009, pp 234-256).

Strength Of Assessment

The Validity of assessment means what the test intends to assess and what are the assessor's objectives. Is it in accordance with the measures that are intended to be assessed? It is the test of intelligence and background knowledge. A teacher writing a classroom quiz will not go deep to judge whether it is valid or not but a teacher who is setting the exam paper is duty bound to examine the validity of the test as many times as possible because this test goes a long way to affect the future of the learner. As far the reliability goes, an assessment is reliable if the learner gets the same marks when tested or assessed by a different assessor or examiner. Validity and reliability are inter-related because an assessment cannot be valid ...
