Excessive Internet Use Leads To Addiction

Introduction

Problematic Internet addiction or unwarranted Internet use is distinguished by unwarranted or poorly controlled preoccupations, urges, or behaviors regarding computer use and Internet access that lead to impairment or distress. Currently, the acknowledgement of internet addiction inside the spectrum of addictive disorders and, thus, no corresponding diagnosis. It has, although, been suggested for addition in the next version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM).

Internet addiction disorder (IAD)

Internet overuse, awkward computer use or pathological computer use, is excessive computer use that hinders with every day life. These terms avoid the diverting and discordant term addiction and are not restricted to any single cause.

IAD was initially suggested as a disorder in a satirical hoax by Ivan Goldberg, M.D., in 1995.
