The Louvre Museum

The Louvre in Paris, France, one of the most famous and most visited art museums in the world. Louvre collection contains almost 35 000 items, which are set at 60, 000 square meters (650,000 square meters. Ft) Palace of the Louvre was built during the reign of the dynasty Kapetinov, during the reign of Philip II and has progressively increased over time, becoming the structure, which is known today. In the Louvre is home to some of the most famous works of art in the world, such as the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci's Madonna and Child with St. Anne and the Virgin in the grotto, Horace Oath by Jacques-Louis David, Liberty Leading the People Delacroix, and the Venus de Milo Alexandros Antiochus.

Modern Louvre is the result of a series of successive building projects undertaken during the last 800 years. First, the historian Potter contends that King Philip II of France referred to as the structure of L 'uvre (in French: a masterpiece), because it was the largest building in Paris, 13th century. Second, Sovol assumes that the name comes from the old Anglo-Saxon words - leouar, meaning "castle" or "fortress." Edwards suggested that the basis of the name comes from the word rouvre, which means oak, and suggesting that the complex was located in an oak forest.

Independent fortified structure in the style of the fort was constructed under Philip Augustus, from 1190 to 1202 to protect Paris against Norman and English attacks. That building was the first building constructed on the site, although sources at the time referred to as early as the Louvre, "New Tower", which indicates that there was an earlier "Old Tower". The only part that still exists from that period, is the foundation of the south-eastern corner of the building. Subsequently, the rulers of France have made many additions to the complex, especially Charles V, who in 1358 built a protective wall around the fortress and converted the Louvre into a royal residence, although further monarchs used the building as a jail.

The Louvre as a place where were collected the works of art, though not as a public museum, began to operate from the time of Francis the First, but only during the French Revolution, the royal Louvre collection became the "Central Museum of the Arts" and a collection of the Louvre opened to the public. Art Museum of the Louvre, the first such museum in France, became operational in October 1750. The first art gallery contains about 99 works, which were located in two wings of the palace.
