Fantasy Story of a Seven-Year Old Boy & His Love for Ice Hockey

Introduction

I had heard much about ice hockey and the fighting and hustle of the game. I had seen a few clips on TV when the sports highlights were shown but had never attended an actual game. Nothing particularly excited me about the prospect of seeing a game in person. But my niece invited me to a major league opening game and she had very good seats so I agreed to go.

The stadium is quite large and most of the seats seemed to be filled. I was very surprised to see how many fans were wearing jersey's sporting the name of their favorite player and team color. Of course, there is a huge large screen TV monitor hanging from the ceiling (actually 4) so that you can see the action up close no matter where you are seated. And our seats were quite good (right next to the cameras filming the crowd and action). Up high enough to see all the ice and the players and get involved in the excitement.

I was wondering if the coaches were using some form of silent monitor to let them know when they were supposed to be in play you know: one for on and two for off. The referees appeared to work hard just to stay on their feet and out of the way of a mishap. It was amazing to me how agile and quick all of the players were. Also, the goalie has an incredible job of keeping the puck out of the net. Half the time I could barely keep track of where it was and yet that goalie stopped it faster than I could find it with my eyes.

And before you know it the period is over. Then the zamboni's come out and re-surface the ice while commercials run on the TV's.

There were no fights, no real aggressive acts, or attitudes that night. There were a few mishaps but nothing serious. The game is very fast moving and I am sure the guys are tired by the end of the third period. Did I enjoy the game enough to attend ...
