For this assignment the work of art that I have chosen is 'Farm near Duivendrecht'. The art work was composed by Piet Mondrian who is considered to be one of the pioneers of Neo-plasticism and abstract art. The chosen work of art was created by Mondrian in Holland at the time of World War I. This is primarily why the painting clearly reflects the flat topography and landscapes of Holland. This paper offers a description of the painting and then conducts an analysis on its leading subject matters. It then discusses the mood and theme of the art to determine the subtle message that the artist has tried to convey through this beautiful work.

Thesis Statement

Mondrian's Farm near Duivendrecht blends horizontal and vertical geometric patterns with subdued natural and real-life colors to depict the beauty, simplicity, tranquility and harmony of nature, representing it as an alternative to conflict and war.

Major Descriptions

The chosen work strongly reflects the art and themes that were characteristic of the style of great painters like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. It takes inspirations from the Cubist paintings but Mondrian has introduced a unique geometrical style in the Farm near Duivendrecht which is termed Neo-plasticism.
