Problem Overview

The implementation of prevention programs have been proven effective in containing sexually transmitted diseases in developed nations. However, the severity of problem has not been reduced in under developing countries. Haiti in this connection is a country where the numbers of sexually transmitted diseases are increasing with the passage of time. The region is adversely stricken by diereses like Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and other STIs in Haiti. These diseases if once linked with the body are hardly curable. On the contrary, the prevalence of such sexually transmitted diseases can be reduced through creating awareness regarding the severity of the issue among the local community. This task is difficult and required trained professionals (community nurses and master prepared nurses) to communicate the knowledge to the community.

Abstract

Deprivation from education and lack of awareness are the chief causes of the increase in sexually transmitted diseases. Whereas, developing countries like Haiti have widespearead illetracy which limit the access of the people from the information. To create awareness among the locals of Haiti it is important to launch an awareness program using trained community and master nurses, which will aid in creating awareness regarding prevention method application to prevent sexually transmitted disesase. This is because, nurses realize the intimate relationship between social determinants of health and the disease, and are knowledgeable. The nurses should utilize their expertise in transmitting awareness through providing a comprehensive training to the locals of Haiti in 10-12 weeks duration. The aim of this proposal furnish a feasibility plan to carryout a plan to educate as many young people as possible. However, the cost can be utilized effectively by initially launching a pilot progaramm and funding will be required to bear the overall cost of plan.

The Facts

The total population of Haiti is 9,923.243, in which women comprises the majority that is 51.5 whereas, men comprise only remaining part of the population.

Despite great progress over the past 5 years, which lowered the rate of HIV prevalence to 2.2%, Haiti continues to be the country where prevalence remains highest in the world, also the African continent. Great challenges also remain to be addressed in each of the different approaches (health, protection, education ...) if there is to roll back the epidemic and permanently extend universal access to care and treatment.
