The Theories and Principles Underpinning the EYFS In Relation To Developing and Supporting Each Child as an Individual

The EYFS is a single value structure for children from birth to the age of five. It brings simultaneously and restores Birth to Three Matters, the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage and the National Standards for under 8s Day Care and Childminding. From September 2008 it will be mandatory for all early years' providers including maintained schools, non-maintained schools, unaligned schools and childcare listed by Ofsted on the Early Years Register.

The EYFS is for all children and all practitioners and identifies that the individual and intimate way in which childminders work with a couple of children in their own dwellings presents a wealthy and diverse experience. The Aim of the EYFS

The overarching objective of the EYFS is to assist juvenile children accomplish the five Every Child Matters outcomes to:

The EYFS will accomplish this objective by a honourable set about to:

The EYFS Principles

The EYFS has four themes: A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments and Learning and Development. Each topic has an overarching Principle.

 

Theme: A Unique Child

Principle: Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, adept, assured and self-assured.

 

Theme: Positive Relationships

Principle: Children discover to be powerful and unaligned from groundwork of loving and protected relationships with parents and/or a key person. (Palaiologou 2010 256)

 

Theme: Enabling Environments

Principle: The natural environment performances a key function in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

 

Theme: Learning and Development

Principle: Children evolve and discover in distinct modes and at distinct rates and all localities of Learning and Development are identically significant and interconnected. Each Principle concerns to all children from birth. Each Principle is sustained by four firm promises that recount how the Principle can be put into practice. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a period characterised in Section 39 of the British government's Childcare Act 2006.
