Gunnera Manicata

Gunnera is the only genus of small Gunneraceae family and includes 30-40 species, occurring mainly in the southern hemisphere. Over the past 10 years, several cladistic studies based on both molecular and morphological data were focused on the sort, as well as with the support of the phylogenetic framework for Gunnera was created. Six subgenera Gunnera, Ostenigunnera, Milligania, Panke, Misandra, Pseudogunnera and Gunnera all monophyletic. Traditionally, morphological studies placed Gunnera either in the family Haloragaceae, or in their own family Gunneraceae, closely related to Haloragaceae in Myrtales (Wan-Ling, Peters, Levieille, Still, Cousins, Osborne, Elhai, 2005).
