Mental illness

Mental health can be described more than the lack of mental illness. And there are various definitions of mental well-being that are influenced as the result of individual expectations and experiences even including religious and cultural beliefs. The over all mental health is capable of being influence by the way we feel and think about ourselves and other people and the way we understand events. This can easily affect out capability to sustain relationship, to communicate and to learn. It can also control our abilities to deal with life events, transition and change like experiencing grief, going to prison, and having a baby. Mental health can be the major part of over all well being and health because the way we feel and think has a great effect on physical health.(make it happen, 2001, 27)

Mental well being

The mental well-being can be a result of many reasons that includes the individual's capabilities of coping, life events, childhood experiences, genetic inheritance, the intensity of social support available and the characteristics like sufficient financial security, employment, housing and lastly access for suitable health care. It has been observed that gender can have a greater impact on the weakness towards mental health problems and mental health. Homophobia, racism and different types of discrimination is also capable of affecting the mental health and can major factor in causing problems towards mental health (make it happen, 2001, 27). This is just not an attribute of individuals' organization, neighbourhoods, school or certain group of individual for example the refugees might have lower level of poverty due to isolation, exclusion, deprivation, poverty and lower status. All the individuals have certain need for their mental health, even if they are diagnosed with mental illness or not. These needs can be fulfilled or not fulfilled at work, home, hospitals schools, prisons, streets or neighbourhoods where the individuals can feel the sense of security, respect, or even face different levels of fear and discomfort that will result in creating the mental health. This is the kind of requirement needed by everyone that can result in increasing the awareness about the things that can result in causing and preventing mental health problems. It has a great range of social and health advantages that includes increased emotional resilience, improved physical health, higher productivity, increased social participation and inclusion .(make it happen, 2001, 27).
