Health and Safety for Project Allenby / Connaught

Introduction

Rough estimates of the research show that, at least 55,000 people are victims of fatal accidents on construction sites each year, or one death every ten minutes. Several hundred thousand people suffer serious injuries and problems health due to, poor working conditions, often in violation of the law. However, licensed data underestimate the number of accidents. In many countries, less than 20 percent of accidents gets identified - and the statistics just lean on the impact of longer-term illnesses. Downsizing, outsourcing, subcontracting and the use of "false independent "cause an adverse impact on health management and safety in the construction sector. Responsibilities for planning and coordination of health and safety often lack transparency and regulations established in this area are not respected. The conditions contract applied in the informal sector make it difficult for workers to exercise their rights. To top it all, self-regulation is growing in the area, and relevant administrations habitually adopt a passive, and permissive towards Employers who ignore standards of health and safety, even when the lives of workers depend on it (Smith, 2000, Pp. 334).
