Health Problems common to both UK and Saudi Arabia

Introduction

People living in different countries have different lifestyles. This lifestyle entails both health and illness. Health issues are one of the most common global issues. When it comes to health issues, there are certain diseases which are prevalent only in certain geographical regions and then there are those that are common in both developing and developed countries. Although countries across the globe have tried to overcome the number of diseases that are prevalent in the country, there are certain diseases that need more attention than the others. There shall be five health problems discussed here that are faced by the societies in UK and in Saudi Arabia. The five problems selected for analysis are heart disease, diabetes, cancer, blood pressure, and obesity. The prevalence of Cardiac diseases are common in both counties, however, there are different ways the two countries are combating them (Klabunde, 2005, p. 25). Studies of the diseases in different demographics are important because health issues have implications for both the economic and social situations of any given country. The two countries have been trying to create awareness in their populace on these diseases.

Discussion

Cardiovascular diseases are the most common health issues faced by the two countries. In UK, it is one of the most common causes of mortality. One in every seven women in UK and one in every five men have been found to be suffering from cardiac diseases (PHE. 2010). About 30% of people in Saudi Arabia die of heart relation complications (Kumosani, Alama, 2011). It is common to both men and women.

On a very broad range, heart disease may be defined as the blockage of blood supply to the heart. This also happens when the fatty acids are contained in the arteries in the heart. When the walls get blocked, the functioning of the heart is effected in a negative way. Heart attack is also called cardiac arrest or myocardial infarction. Among the various treatment methods are surgery, angiography and most importantly maintain a healthy lifestyle (Kumosani, Alama, 2011). However, the most effective treatment is one which is coupled with lifestyle changes. This has also affected the economies and the social planning's of both the countries. The causes of heart disease in the two countries are the same. They include hypertension, obesity, cholesterol, maintaining an unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, etc.

The social life in Saudi Arabia is different from the social life in the UK. In the UK, even the older population has many avenues of social interactions with people their age. Even if the older ones are isolated by their off springs, it does not leave them completely in solitude. In addition, the people of UK have higher purchasing power than the people of Saudi Arabia.
