Health Promotion Theory

Health promotion theory is based on changing human behavior. Health promotion and health related programs are focused towards changing human behavior to live healthier lives. In order to achieve self actualization and well being, people need to change behavior towards a healthy lifestyle. Health promotion theory is based o0n the fact that people to adopt behaviors which they perceive will result in immediate benefits. Prior behavior has affected on future behavior, personal factors such as socioeconomic status affect healthcare choices, perceived benefits affects behavioral choices, interpersonal interaction affects health choices, situational choices and personal commitment to plan, all these factors affect health choice, according to health promotion theory. The model provides the basis for nurses systematically access client's health behavior. Then the model promotes nursing intervention, which can help people changing their behavior (Davis, 2006).

Pragmatic Adequacy Criterion

Nurses are trained in a nursing field where they learn nursing practices, in order to change behavior of people; nurses do require training in behavioral, inter-personal skills, Psychology and socio-cultural awareness. These fields can be incorporated in nursing courses in order to provide a comprehensive training.

A clinical protocol is also called a medical guideline, which is a document with the objective of guidelines and criteria concerning management, diagnosis, and treatment in precise areas of healthcare. Health Promotion Model provides comprehensive theoretical propositions, which can be converted into a guiding document, to diagnose and treat according assumptions of health promotion model. Steps can be formed through which a patient would go through in order to bring about required changes.
