We all need the essential amino acids, carbohydrates, essential fats, vitamins and minerals at 28 and maintain life and health. However, nutritional needs vary from one life stage to another. During fetal development, infancy and childhood, for example, recommends the intake of macronutrients and micronutrients, most are high in relation to body size compared with those in adulthood. In older people, some of the needs of nutrients (eg vitamin D) increases, while others (eg, energy, iron) are reduced.

The National Academy of Sciences has issued recommendations for Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) 1, which are specific for different stages of life. It should be noted, however, that the DRI is not designed for people who are either chronically ill or who are at high risk of disease due to age, genetics or lifestyle factors (eg smoking, eating alcohol, vigorous exercise). Clinicians should make their own judgments about the needs of nutrients in these cases on the basis of available information (see table).

First, the predominant nutritional problem in developed countries is overfeeding. Has led to unprecedented epidemics of obesity and chronic diseases. Physicians can help patients in making dietary changes necessary to avoid overeating and its aftermath. Nutrition science investigates metabolic and physiological responses of the body with diet. With advances in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics, the study of nutrition is increasingly concerned with metabolic pathways and metabolism: the sequences of biochemical steps through which the substances in life things change from one form to another.

Nitrogen is that animals need to build proteins. Carnivorous and herbivorous diets vary in their source of nitrogen, which is a limiting nutrient for both. Herbivores eat plants to obtain nitrogen and other carnivorous animals eat to get nitrogen. [1] Nitrogen is a common element in the atmosphere, but exists in a state that is not usable by most organisms. Some fungi and bacteria can convert atmospheric nitrogen into a form plants can absorb and use.

The human body contains chemical compounds such as water, carbohydrates (sugar, starch and fiber), amino acids (proteins), fatty acids (in lipid), and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). These compounds in turn consist of elements such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese, etc. All of these chemical compounds and elements occur in various forms and combinations (hydroxyapatite hormones, for example, vitamins, phospholipids), in the human body and in plants and animals that humans eat.

The human body is composed of elements and compounds that are ingested, digested, absorbed and distributed through the bloodstream to feed the body's cells. Except in the fetus, which are processed the nutrients from the mother, the digestive system is the first system involved in the breakdown of food before digestion. Digestive juices are secreted into the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract, break the chemical bonds in ingested molecules and modulate their conformations and energy states.
