Abstract

A retrospective evaluation of the results of the homoeopathic treatment of patients suffering from bronchial asthma displayed a very important statistical improvement in the condition. Strict inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied after a random trawl of situations from our files. The results were assessed in periods of the general population and according to age at start of remedy, to take account of the high incidence of spontaneous remission in children. In this research paper, the clinical approach of the homoeopath is discussed with reference to the prescribing of medicines.

Chapter 1: Introduction

Background of the Research

Asthma is a disease associated to respiratory system. When the lungs get topped up with hack or any foreign body enters into the windpipe it determinants partial impeding or irritation. This status is termed as asthma. This is a widespread infection which sways almost 10-20% of the total world population. It affects people of all the ages; although it is very widespread amongst the children. In most of the cases the disease being mild is often not recognized and is left untreated (Spahn, 2002, pp: 10).

In asthma, airways get narrowed. These tapered airways may lead to hacking, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. These symptoms get inferior at night time. It is observed that it affects twice as many young men as young women in childhood; more young women than young men develop asthma as teenagers, and in adulthood, the ratio gets equalized say 1:1 males to females.

The conditions of seriousness alter from person to person. In some cases as mild as no consequences and in extreme cases furthermore death. It is generally widespread in freezing air, dusty environment, dirt and acid fumes humid conditions, eating allergic nourishment merchandise, emotional stress, tobacco fumes, or even respiratory viral infection.

In Canada itself about 3 million people are affected, and approximately 20 young children and 500 adults pass away each year from asthma. However, most killings from asthma can be stopped by adequate treatments. There is a general tendency of increased deaths and hospitalizations from asthma recorded in all the industrialized countries of the world, including Canada (Spahn, 2002, pp: 12).
