Human Service Scenario Analysis

Background Information

Amby is a 38 year old woman, with the origin from Mexico. She is fluent at Spanish and is suffering from schizophrenia and depression. She is currently living with her elder sister Anna who has been taking care of Amby since she was 14. Parents of Amby and Anna passed away in a road accident. Amby went into the state of depression, shortly after the funeral of her parents and the development of mental health problems started to take place.

Issues Identification

Amby was in a serious relationship with a guy named Mathew, who ended up his relationship. She found out that he has been cheating since a very long time. He was having relationship with her best friend. This break up was taken up badly by her.

Case Scenario

Amby tried committing suicide as well by taking sleeping pills and cutting down her wrist as well. She also claims that she is hearing weird voices in her head, which are telling her to hurt herself and others as well. Another thing that the voice particularly tells her is to kill her sister Anna. She was convinced that her sister has been the cause for her failing relationship, as she never liked her boyfriend. Because of all these reasons, she is pretty upset with Anna. Once, Anna also said that Amby's boyfriend is leaving her for good. Anna personally didn't like Mathew and was of the view that Amby could find and deserve a better man, who could treat her in a better manner.

Today, Amby herself is of the view that she is in need of treatment and looking for options as well. She also desire to get involvement of her family throughout the process of healing.

Interview Details for the Client

We will be considering following the assertive personal communication style for conducting interview with the subject. I am of the belief that Amby would be more comfortable having this kind of communication as it is going to be non judgemental and more focused over observation than tagging. I would be keenly observing the nonverbal communication like facial expressions, body language and gestures. It is quite significant to have non-direct eye contact with Amby, as she is going through schizophrenic and usually such patients get nervous while having direct contact of eyes and become restless. I will consider being a very attentive listener. Amby will be given complete time to get comfortable in having the conversation and not being threatened.

We will be putting in all the efforts for the development of a good working relationship with Amby, by giving her an offer of security and trust by our attitude and behaviour. We will also be showing her respect and courtesy and will be expecting her to do the same. Her behaviour in this regard would be keenly observed. I am pretty aware of the point that Amby might be observing her in the same way as well.
