ABSTRACT

The world has entered a critical period for human health. The scarcity of skilled health personnel, including nurses, reveals one of the biggest obstacles to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) aimed at improving the health and welfare of the world population. Against this background of growing concern about the shortage of health personnel, the report focuses on one of the most important human resource: nurses. Nurses are the staff "Vanguard" in most health systems, recognizing that their contribution is essential to meet the development of goals and provide safe and effective care. Presenting an overview, this study refers to the main trends, large problems and possible solutions. It not only highlights the breadth of coverage, but also stresses certain specific problems of the nursing workforce in different countries to illustrate the main problems facing those responsible people for the development and implementation of policies relating to nursing workforce. The report provides a snapshot of a world situation dynamic and interesting. It further emphasizes on researching the impacts of the shortage of nurses and and judges the impact of this scarcity on the economy of UK.
