International Logistic and Supply Chain

Abstract

Just-in-Time (JIT) is one of the techniques used in the management of quality on production. Greening the supply chain refers to reducing the waste involved in the process of supply chain. The green supply chain can reduce costs and become efficient and agile. There is a very close relation between greening and JIT. The basic goal of JIT method is to reduce the wastes that exist in organization by efficiently utilization of resources. The method JIT explains much of the current successes of Japanese companies. The company should strive to continuously reduce production costs. Suppliers must be involved in product design and process. It is advisable to take long-term joint investments with suppliers. This philosophy is mainly based on two phrases that sum up the goals, "the habit of getting better" and the "elimination of wasteful practices." Using the methods of greening and JIT is highly significant for organizations for long term sustainability.

Introduction and Background

JIT (Just-In-Time)

Just in Time (JIT) is one of the techniques used in the management of quality on production. It includes the complete elimination of waste, by providing each production process that requires elements within the required time and quantity required (Chase & Aquilano, 2006). The main benefit associated with JIT is to reduce the execution time to a minimum, which brings significant cost savings associated with a reduction in inventories. The effectiveness of the implementation of JIT method depends on finding a balance between flexibility and firmness provider users, with appropriate involvement of managers, employees and the use of the advantages of teamwork (Hayes & Pisano, 2005).

The creator of the method just in time, Taichi Ohno, is considered to develop its concept based on the conditions occurring in the system of Ford and the American retail industry. It was first used by Kiichiro Toyoda at Toyota plants in the 50's. He implemented it in all corporate divisions (Hirano, 2009). It was then gradually recommended to the suppliers. The method involves the organization of production on the basis of raw materials and semi-finished drawing of the earlier cell process, which allows minimizing inventories.

Greening the Supply Chain

Greening the supply chain refers to reducing the waste involved in the process of supply chain. The green supply chain can reduce costs and become efficient and agile. The smaller contribution to global climate change is an extra bonus. Knowing the total carbon footprint of your company can take effective measures to reduce the impact of the activities of your business and its supply chain on climate change. Climate change has become one of the greatest challenges for the international community, the world of business and individual citizens. The increasing emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere and its recognized effect on climate are an important reason for this change (Krajewski & Ritzman, 2005). The quantification, analysis and reduction of carbon footprint are essential to prevent ...
