Listed as one of the top companies in online retailing industry, Zappos.com has harnessed the online-selling platform to grow into a company that generates more than $840 million in revenue. Launched in July 1999 as an online shoe retailer with monthly sales of around $80million, this company has expanded its product range to include men's shows, women's shoes, kid's shoes, women apparel, and men's apparel (Zappos, 2012b).

In the five years to 2011, the company has mainly expanded through acquisitions. In 2009, Amazon purchased Zappos for $880.0 million. The introduction of Zappos signified the company's entry into the cloud e-selling market by enabling customers to securely purchase shoes and apparels using their compatible phones, tablets or computers (Zappos, 2012a). While the long-term implications of this development is yet to be unknown, it is nonetheless reflective of the company's strategy to further expand their offerings of shoes retailing globally.
