Introduction

Importance of IT in educational sector

The IT industry is playing an important role in many fields. The business organizations are getting many benefits by implementing the IT technologies in the business operations. Similarly the educational sector is also driving many benefits by implementing the IT technologies in the teaching assistance tools. In today's era, the IT is providing safe mode to the parents to use the IT technologies in making their children learn the things. Many websites have been developed for the children that assist the children to explore the concepts and also assist them in developing the ideas. Such websites have been found very beneficial for the children in developing the skills and confidence.

Background of the case study

The case study of the software development house “Edutechno” is also focused upon the introducing of the social networking site that will support the children to build up their writing and communication skills within a safe social networking environment. For this purpose, the business consultants had the meeting with that of the three local education authorities (LEAs) in the South East of England. In this meeting the ideas of the development of social networking site for the school age children, called “EduBook”, was were discussed. In this meeting the marketing and business strategies were also discussed and it was made clear that it would be safe networking site for the students and the parents would be given proper control to look into the activities of the children. Later on, Julia Lancelot, Head of South Kent LEA, did withdraw from the consortium by presenting the negative and unsupportive results of the online survey. The online survey was aimed at asking the teachers about the effectiveness of the social networking sites in the education and their responses indicated that the social networking sites are the one that are responsible for the poor grades of the children.

Due to this result presented by Julia Lancelot, the idea of the project remained unfulfilled. The senior technical consultant of the organization “Edutechno” has denied the claim of the Julia Lancelot and has presented the facts of the survey that was conducted by National Literacy Trust in the year 2009. The survey results of the National Literacy Trust showed that the social networking sites provide the enjoyment as well as the confidence in writing.
