In the story "When I was Puerto Rican" by "Esmeralda Santiago", Negi's journey sets about in a small town of Puerto Rico, where her puerility was full of both affection and state discord, stifling sounds and places of interest besides scarcity. Maturing up, she ascertained the suitable manner to eat a guava, the sound of tree-frogs in the orchards of mango at nighttime, the savor of the delicious sausage known as Marcella, and method for showing a soul of dead baby to paradise. As she enrolls in an educational institute, we ascertain the encounter, both funny and ferocious, between Puerto Rican and Yankee civilization (Watt H, 2009).
