Assignment #1: Collaborative study of the new Australian Curriculum for English

The aim of the Australian Curriculum in English for students that they learn to listen, read, speaks, even write, create, and reflect. It is aimed that the English language can be used in many variations. It would be useful for the students to understand the spoken and written forms of Standard Australian English. The Australian Curriculum for English has three sub-strands: language, literature and literacy. Language helps to know English language and its working in terms of grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, punctuation, spelling and others. Literature helps to understand, appreciate, respond, analyze and create literature in classical and contemporary text. Literacy helps to understand and produce English language in an accurate, fluent, creative, critic and effect texts (Christie 2005, 1).

The content of primary English includes the following points. First is to read, write, listen, and speak as a clear alignment between the K-10 English Syllabus and Australian Curriculum. Creating and responding to the digital text after viewing digital and multimodal texts is inclusive in F-7. There is huge emphasis on the reading, responding and experiencing of creation of literature. Language change, systems of communication is related to English and its dialects in the new content. There is increased priority given to the language's knowledge and language use.

The content of secondary English is aligned with the K-10 English Syllabus with writing, listening, speaking and viewing of Australian Curriculum. There are reading practices in 8 and 9 Years such representation and inter-text. Same as of primary content, the new content is about the English dialects, language change and systems of communication. There is detailed understanding and use of grammar in the specific content detail. The increased importance is given to the analysis and evaluation of literature texts such as meta-language for literature appreciation in Years 8-10. The reading and responding is done to the digital technology with specific focus (Department of Education, 2012).

Classroom discourse is made with the help of natural or target discourse. The research on classroom discourse suggests that the learning content and direction of the course is controlled by the teachers. The teachers ask questions and formulate the answers which are given by the students. The classroom time is consumed about 70% by the teachers. Majority of the teaching strategies are listening-based or didactic teaching strategy where students understand and learn from what they hear and then repeat what is learned. The students as learner have dual role because they have to speak as well as listen.
