Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “Communications” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “Communications” and its relation with “culture”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “Communications” and tries to gauge its effect on “culture”. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for “Communications” and tries to describe the overall effect of “Communications” on “culture”.

Introduction

Communication is a thing, which is present in each and every culture of the world. The concept of language or communication can be retraced to the time before the advent of humans in this world, i.e. the time when the animals used to rule the world. The reason that communication has become so significant in our life is that, we can express our thoughts and ideas through our communication, so that the people around us can understand what does a person has in his mind, i.e. a way to interact with others. People can use a number of ways to communicate his message, and different cultures have different developed different ways to express themselves. Whatever way people may adopt to express themselves, the aim is to express their emotions and feelings. This is the basic aim of any language, i.e. to let people express themselves.

THE LANGUAGE OF BODY ART

One of the ways people use to express themselves is the language of body art. It is also called, “Body language”, and is used to send messages through symbols. In this type of communication, people get tattoos on different parts of their body by letting someone to pierce their body parts and enforce certain shapes on it. (James, David 2006)

According to Shildkrout, We cannot find a single culture in this world in which the people do not have this practice of not piercing, painting, making a tattoo, or reshaping their body, to make their body more good looking. Different forms of fashions come and go, and various classes of body art change, nevertheless, people around the globe keep performing acts to alter or improve their look. A sensible or a well cultured man will not go for something absolutely foolish; however, everyone dresses, grooms himself/herself, and decorates a part of his/her body to look more graceful and beautiful. The body art helps a person to communicate his position in the community; and shows his/her achievements; and encodes the desires, memories and the history of the person's life. (Elvio 2005) In the opinion of Shildkrout, the body art is sort of visual language. To comprehend this sort of language, a person has to keep knowledge about the different terminologies and words which are used in this form of language, which includes the myths, shared symbols & societal principles, which are written on the body of the person.
