Leadership & Glass Ceiling

Introduction

The term Glass ceiling tends to interpret itself as the barriers which hinder the growth of an individual within the organization. These barriers are not often visible thus it becomes very difficult for the victim to breach these barriers. In the context of this paper these barriers tends to be identified in the course of the gender and ethnic influences. These barriers tend to bar the growth of the women to climb up the corporate ladder and similarly it tends to bar the men who tend to belong to a minority group existing in the society. Despite of various researches the issues surrounding the gender differences and ethnic group still tends to rely in the organizations. There are different theories and model which tends to prove that gender differences are practice even today in the organizations. Thus these models do not tend to focus on the leadership style.

However, Interpersonal leadership behavior does tend to play a varying role in an organization although the arguments can be made about how successful individuals can be who were able to climb up the corporate ladder despite of the existence of the Glass Ceiling. The scores by their subordinates also tend to depict the nature of the picture. Their role as an execuutive or a middle layered manager can act as a yardstick in relation to their behavior with the subordinates and the ability to perform under pressure. The work setting tends to influence greatly the behavior of middle and executive level managers towards the women and the people who tend to belong to minority groups.

Thus, in the context of this paper we would be focusing on some of these issues which need to be discussed I order to develop a better understanding of the subject.
