Introduction

Personal development plan is defined as 'a structured and supported process undertaken by an individual to reflect upon their own learning, performance and/or achievement and to plan for their personal, educational and career development' (The Higher Education Academy). Leadership is a concept used in many different contexts with an array of meanings. Accordingly, there is a lack of common understanding as to what leadership is and what constitutes good leadership. Leadership is a process that takes place in all aspects of an organization, and professionals can influence leadership in the organization and larger community from any level of an organization. Being a leader in one of the most important yet difficult task as it not only requires one to perform and work on a personal level but also encourage and motivate those who are working under us. According to Jonh Updike “A leader is one who, out of madness or goodness, volunteers to take upon himself the woe of the people. There are few men so foolish, hence the erratic quality of leadership in the world.”  How willing a person is to take the responsibility of other peoples' problems and performance helps in defining the willingness of a person to be the leader. The author has used the word of woes and those woes may be related to the family, friends, kids, company, employees or team. A great leader has the potential to deal with everyone's woes , problems and concerns.

Ralphe Nader has gone one step further in defining the function of a leader that is to develop the employees and produce more and more leaders in the business industry rather thant followers. This is an important quality of a great leader that they help in the production of more great leaders through providing important developmental opportunities to their people. With help of patience and strict disciplinary actions leader s can help their employees in becoming leaders in their own domain. Many people think that leadership means having a leading position in the organization or some important title with high rank. Bennett suggest that leaders without the capability of taking initiative is no better than a regular worker or employee. In order to lead effectively it is important to lead the employees by being a role model and guide the employees towards victory and achievement in the long run.

Following are some of the most important qualities of a leaders that must be made an important part of the self development leaders plan to guide the overall process of implementation.
