Leadership is considered as the core of every organization that guides the leads the organization through difficult times and hurdles. Similarly, several authors have described leadership as an important tool in health care practices, particularly in managing the performance of the nurses (Curtis, et al, 2011).

As the profession of nursing represent the most crucial aspect of human health, and research form past have shown that effective leadership has transformed positive impact on the performance of nurses and that played a vital role in speedy recovery of the patients (Curtis, et al, 2011).

It is currently assumed the nursing leaders are facing certain challenges in form of their changing roles, introduction of new technologies, financial and economic constraint, and educational background. Therefore, according to the need of time it must be ensure that leader must not be a function in nursing rather it must be present in entire health care organization (Curtis, et al, 2011).


Leadership in Nursing

Lots of literature is available on the leadership, leadership qualities and styles, but very little has been written so far about the role of leadership in nursing. However, a well-known scholar (Denman, et al, 1990) has summarized the effective role of leadership in nursing in his defined definition.

According to the author leadership in nursing means to have administrative capabilities, effective knowledge about the nurses work, expertise in handling the nursing atmosphere, and most important poses the qualities of an effective leaders (Dunman, et al, 1990).

The most amazing part of this description that some of the nurses executives and expert have found the leadership style of nursing different from others because the professional of nursing requires to carter the needs of patients, and aims to reduce the pain of the patients and his family (Curtis, et al, 2011).

In order words it could be argued that an effective nursing leader must an expert nurse or doctor as he has the required experience of handling emotional situation and knows how to motivate nurses at the situation of need and shock. Further, it is normal speculation that once an individual is assigned with the authority, he has some followers that are working on his expertise, and knowledge, that person is considered the leader (Curtis, et al, 2011).
