My Leadership Style

My leadership style is “Transformational” leadership style. It offers individualized encourage and uphold value for everyone and feel their personal requirements by giving resources to assist specialization and knowledge by funding, giving books, equipment, materials, teamwork and coaching.

A leader must be conscious of his weaknesses and strengths with the intention that she/he can make the most of his efficiency and effectiveness, whilst simultaneously, handle anything unconstructive influences his weaknesses could initiate. Thus any leader must perform a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) Analysis of his/her personal Leadership. SWOT Analysis might assist Leaders to recognize their blind spots and initiate anything about them.

Developing skills for leadership is one of the most important tasks for all nurses. A first step in this process is to examine your leadership style. This can be accomplished by taking an assessment test or by rating yourself on an instrument designed for that purpose. If the self-assessment shows a high level of one type of leadership style, you might want to consider the growth of skills in other types of leadership. If your experience has been primarily in leadership of work groups, one should seek out experiences in leading community groups or community efforts. Interdisciplinary experiences should also be included as part of your growth in leadership competence. (Yukl 2009, 285-305)

Using a S.W.O.T. analysis, this paper discusses my preferred leadership style I would adopt in my current placement in the dementia older adult ward. The paper also provides a brief review of three major theories that influenced current conceptions of leadership. They are Transformational, Transactional and Situational Leadership styles.

Reason of Leadership to be Implemented

My leadership style is called Transformational leadership style which I think, best suites in my current placement in the dementia older adult ward. It is a leadership style which begins with a dream, that stimulates and tests the team. He then promotes the dream to the team and utilizes commitment and energy to instigate them to put forth the dream. Rapid and dramatic adjustments in nurses' roles and responsibilities are generating much disruption and anxiety among nurses. Yet they are simultaneously providing nurses with greater opportunities to develop new and cost-effective models of improving the health and well-being of individuals and their communities. (Avolio 2008, 276-30)

Effects Of Different Leadership Styles On Workplace, Client and Service Delivery

For me, putting nursing leadership into practice in my current placement in the dementia older adult ward of today is a challenge. Health care organizations are in flux, structures are changing, and roles and functions of nurse managers become moving targets.
