That involves a major element of the organization's future prosperity and progress. Management and employees both are the entities in an organization that will either make it win or lose. Communication, drive, authority and politics are some concepts that will make a business lead to success or failure. Overview on Leadership Theories

In the early times leadership theories spotlighted more on the attributes that differentiated between leaders and followers, while succeeding theories observed other integral variables like situational aspects and skill levels. Several different leadership theories have come up with time; there are about eight major types of leadership theories which are stated below:

Great Man Theories: These theories presume that the capability for leadership is an inborn trait, leaders can't be made, they are born as leaders. These theories usually represent great leaders to be valiant, mythic and intended to come into the real mode to leadership when ever required. The philosophy of Great Man was employed because, in those times, leadership was considered to be fundamentally a quality that only males could possess.

Trait Theories: Very closely related to the Great Man theories, the trait theories were of the concept that people take over particular attributes and traits so that they become suitable to become a leader. These theories usually recognize specific personality based characteristics which are found common amongst leaders.

Contingency Theories: Contingency theories of leadership highlight on those specific variables which are related to the surroundings depending upon what will be the most suitable for a particular situation. As per to this theory of leadership, there is no leadership style which will be the best one to deal with every sort of situation. It states that success depends upon a variety of variables, which include the leadership style, attributes of the followers and the situation itself.
