Introduction

The American Revolution was a period of significant political changes caused by the insurrection of the inhabitants of the Thirteen Colonies of North America against the British in the late eighteenth century. The American Revolution has some features that distinguish it from both the pre-English bourgeois revolution and on the outbreak shortly after completion of the Great French Revolution (Taylor, 22).

Alan Taylor has specifically focused on the settlement of eastern Maine in the two generations following 1760, Liberty Men and absolute Proprietors has a substantial purpose. It addresses some of the reasons why the towns and counties just inland from mid coastal Maine have names like Liberty, Freedom, Union, Hope, Hancock, Washington and Jefferson, dating back to the time of the Sons of Liberty and the American Revolution. In this book the author has showed how wealthy, white Indians, landholders and evangelicals simultaneously create an economic and political system during terrific transaction period (Richard, 17). Indeed, the author has used the conflict between settlers and proprietors to reveal the making of a liberal social order and to a significant extent he succeeds in this arduous task.

Thesis Statement

After the American Revolution, Mid-Maine became more democratic, most notably in the distribution of land and in the informal assumption that all voters were roughly equal, regardless of wealth. This transition resulted from the settlers' commitment to both evangelical religion and a democratic interpretation of the revolution itself.

Discussion

Ann Taylor had mentioned in his book that before the Revolution, Mid-Maine was undemocratic, politically, economically, and culturally, but after 40 years of the revolution, Mid-Maine has become more democratic to a significant extent. Further in the paper we are going to discuss how it become more dramatic economically, politically, religiously and legally has.

The Ann Taylor in his book has given attention to two main groups “Great Proprietors” and “Liberty Men” that battled to control they believed that land is the most valuable resource of eastern Maine. Most importantly these two groups were demarcated along class lines of one sort or another. The liberty men had fewer controls on the resources than of the proprietors (Taylor, 22). They were also at odds at the time of American Revolution mostly considered as the post revolutionary era. It was believe of proprietors that revolution was a success because it allowed them to have control over the entire territory that was patented to their families, or them. On the other hand, the revolution was a success because moral foundations of the economy were not upset or disturbed.

During the early nineteenth century or in late eighteenth century, an ordered economy was created by the proprietors; they also created a materialistic world when they were serving as economical trustees. In the other hand, the Liberty Men were having complete starkly different vision of revolution.
