Listening is a skill which helps in effective communication. Generally people tend to get confused between the words Hearing and listening, when they are asked about listening skills. Hearing is a passive process and a physical ability in which it does not matter whether the person is paying attention to the conversation or not. Listening, on the other hand, is an active process in which the person has to concentrate on the conversation otherwise he would not be able to understand what is being said.

In the Business world, good listening skills are necessary for effective communication. It is considered to be crucial for proper communication at any level within the work place (Grognet, 2003).
