Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of international acquisition and the effects of strategies on it in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on the acquisition o f Compaq by the Hewlett Packard and its relation with organizational and industry strategies which are able to put a direct effect on it. The research also analyzes many aspects of the international acquisitions and tries to gauge its pre- and post acquisition effects on the idea of acquisition of Compaq by HP. Finally, the current research study describes various factors which are responsible for any increase of decline in the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization and tries to describe the overall effect of the core elements including marketing, HR and of the changing product line on the international acquisition of Compaq by HP.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This managerial report aims to make a detailed analysis of the two most popular companies in computer manufacturing industry, which include HP and Compaq. The analysis is performed in light of the changes taking place in the conventional organizational models of the US and UK based and other multinational Information Technology companies.

To develop a clear understanding, a detailed business and financial analysis of the computer manufacturing company has been carried out and included in this report. Since, the practice of acquisition is very challenging and risky in competitive firms, problems and risks faced by both the companies have also been discussed. To add to this, the role of the management and leadership has been studied in order to carry out an extensive research regarding the strategy and management of the companies.
