Poverty an be defined as deprivation in welfare. The traditional view of welfare mainly focuses on command over commodities, so the less fortunates or deprived are ones that do not have sufficient funds or consumption to set them over some least threshold. According to this aspect, poverty is perceived mainly in monetry terms.

Poverty can also be joined to a precise kind of expenditure; for instance, their might be people who do have enough amount of funds to afford a house or food or good health. Some aspects of poverty level can be calculated often directly by determining undernourishment or lack of education. Poverty is the deficiency of basic human needs, such as clean water, diet, health care, education, clothing and shelter, because of the incapability to afford them. This is also referred to as absolute poverty or destitution. Relative poverty is the state of having fewer resources or fewer incomes than others within a society or country, or compared to worldwide averages (Menno, 658).

The widest move towards welfare and poverty is to aim the function by the potential individual in society. Main capabilities are mainly lacked by the deprived people who may have not sufficient income or proper education or those who are not in good health or feel incompetent or those who lack political liberty.

First approach is to view the well-being rather than the control on the products so that people are better when they have a good control over funds. The main objective is whether sufficient resources are available to individuals to meet their households or other needs. Normally, the income of persons or the measurement to be poor by the use of a threshold below are compared to calculate the level of poverty. It is the more traditional aspect of vision. Primarily poverty is viewed in monetary terms and is the beginning point for general analysis of poverty.
