Meningitis

Abstract

In this paper, we analyze the meningitis and its overall affect on the human body. The symptoms and causes are also discussed in detail. Meningitis meningococcal septicemia (blood poisoning) is a serious disease. They can occur very quickly, but their impact can last a lifetime. The paper highlights the treatment through different ways. Finally, the paper shows the effective treatment through proper checkups and routine vaccinations.

Meningitis

Introduction

Meningitis is an infectious disease caused by viruses or bacteria found in the nose and throat of healthy individuals (healthy carriers) that spread to others. The disease causes infection and inflammation of the meninges, membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Typically, only the meninges are infected. This is referred to as meningococcal meningitis. Sometimes the meningococcus is introduced into the blood spreading. This problem is known as meningococcal sepsis. It may happen that both problems are given at once. Meningitis can strike children of any age, but as can be easily spread between people living in close quarters, teens, college students and those in boarding school are at greater risk of infection. If dealt with promptly, meningitis treatment is effective.

Causes

Infectious meningitis caused either by viruses, bacteria or by virus infection, which is the most common, while hospital treatment, usually benign. Sometimes appear as a result of other viral infections such as mumps. When a bacterium is the causative agent comes to more serious pathology. Sometimes cause death. Bacteria and viruses that infect the skin, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract or respiratory tract can spread by the bloodstream to the meninges through cerebrospinal fluid, which circulates in and around the spinal cord. In certain cases of bacterial meningitis, the bacteria from a severe head trauma or a severe infection as a near- ear infection (otitis media) or nasal sinus infection (sinusitis) - spread to the meninges. Several types of bacteria can cause bacterial meningitis. Group B streptococcus, Escherichia coli and Listeria monocytogenes are the most common causes of meningitis in newborns. The Streptococcus pneumoniae, commonly called "pneumococcus" and Neisseria meningitidis, known as "meningitis" are more common in older children. The bacterium Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) can cause the disease, but widespread use of the vaccine in children, these cases are less frequent. Similarly, several viruses are the cause of viral meningitis, including enteroviruses (such as coxsackievirus, poliovirus, and herpes virus (Wehrle, and Mathies, 1981).

Symptoms

Once infected, a person may experience the first symptoms between two and ten days after infection. Sometimes has a sudden onset, in others, the symptoms are similar to those of a cold or flu. In addition to meningitis, meningeal symptoms ("pseudomeningitis") can be detected with subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial hypertension, bulky posterior fossa lesions (hematoma or abscess of the cerebellum), poisoning, brain injury, neuroleptic malignant syndrome. The most frequent and announce severity:

High fever

Severe headache

Stiff neck

Vomiting abrupt

Sleepiness

Loss of consciousness

Agitation, delirium, convulsions

Stains red-purple skin, which means more gravity.

Prevention

There are vaccines, for meningitis A and C. It is now spreading throughout the country mandatory vaccination type ...
