Intervention in Mental Health

Introduction

Over the past several years there has been a sharp increase in the attention given to the mental health and wellness of students who are attending colleges and universities. The increase in mental health problems observed in cultures "industrialized" has become an increasingly alarming concern for all those involved in prevention and treatment (psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, etc.). This concern does not go only by the fact that affective disorders, anxious, chronic stress and other psychosocial difficulties have been sharply increasing in recent decades (International Labour Office, 2000), but those populations Calls "on risk "can not find a viable solution and protection in these professional mental health experts (Paterniti, 2002, p. 45).

Moreover, from different areas of the human sciences (psychology, neurobiology, anthropology and others), has shown that the early years are a unique window of opportunity to prevent and intervene in mental health problems and avoid gaps in the development of high-risk sectors biopsychosocial and maladaptive behaviors do not become stable traits and personality characteristics of the subjects, and therefore less likely to successfully change (Stansfeld, 2002, p. 129).
