Motorcycle Helmet law

Motorcycles provide hours of fun, fuel-efficient, and easy to park. Unfortunately, many riders never learn critical skills needed to drive safely. Florida is known for its easy lifestyle and laid back attitude, the history of the law dates back and stil forming today. The laws are formed to protect the rider from fatal and serious injury. Wearing helmet has benefits to the rider and other citizens as well. The mandatory helmet use in intercity roads created a serious feeling that the bike was a risky sport. (Russo, 19 )

The mandatory use seems logical given that both vehicles have a body that could serve as containment in the event of collision or rollover, and that the mere loss of balance on the bike can mean giving your head against the hard ground. And the head is not as hard as the floor. (Miller, 12) However, recent measurements of helmet use by Fight for Life show that only 56% of drivers of motorcycles and mopeds use it. And partial surveys in the greater Buenos Aires and the interior towns still show much less use.

Helmets save lives by preventing strokes and head injuries, devastating and disabling. Motorcyclists who do not wear helmets have much higher risk of death or permanent injury. The General Accounting Office United States (GAO) has studied and proved that: ¨ motorcyclists who wear helmets are 73% less mortality than those who do not wear helmets. (McSwain, and Lummis, 2000, 151 ¨ motorcyclists who wear helmets are up to 85% fewer serious injuries than those who do not wear helmets.
