Introduction

Mary Rowlandson_ "a pioneering American" was born in the year 1637. During King Philip's war, the Native Americans apprehend her and her three children. After getting free from imprisonment of 11 weeks, she wrote a book sharing her experience regarding the captivity, with the name of “The Sovereignty and Goodness of God: Being a Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson”. She faced a number of issues at the time of imprisonment. However, the time she spent in captivity change her views and opinions about the world and the Indians She use to believe it is better being kill than being under the imprisonment of Indians. Mary was a wife of a Puritan Minister because of which she never thought of a life of hardships. She uses to live a happy and contended life without all these worries. Rowlandson herself stated in her book that “Before I knew what disease meant, I was ready sometimes to wish for it”.She also brought to light that the time changes very frequently. At one point of time, I was thinking that I need nothing from these Indians, but the other moment I was circled by the feelings of sorrow, deprivation. I was in a state of acute sickness, and wounds. At that time, I felt that I was in a need of hand that could provide me some relaxation. All these statements make the point clear that she was a member of a well off family.
