Network Design and Management

Introduction

Central Command's four-star general has handed down a mission to secure and control two very hostile and unstable parts of Iraq. The mission will consist of two subordinate units and one quick strike brigade. The 101st Apache Brigade, Central Command's Alpha Company and Charlie Company 1st Cavalry 3rd Infantry will be the units forward deployed. The 101st Apache Brigade will be securing and holding commanding Baghdad. Alpha company will secure and controls the town of Fallujah and Charlie Company will secure and control the town of Karbala. All there elements will need to stay in constant contact with each other as well as sending reports back to higher headquarters. For these three elements to have constant communication, they will require a high speed secure wireless network which would need to use satellite up links.

In this paper we will be designing a Wireless Area Network, which will help the companies in communicating with each other from distant situations. This paper presents a multi-objective wireless local area networks design and optimization.

The proposed model combines three problems together, including the optimal access point placement, the frequency channel assignment and the power level assignment. In addition, it accounts for user population density in the service area, traffic demand characteristics and the physical structure of the service area. The design model aims to determine a network configuration that optimizes the network quality of services in term of the radio signal coverage and the data rate capacity to serve expected user traffic demand in the service area. Numerical results and sensitivity analysis is performed to analyze the network quality of service.

Network Design and Management

Wireless technology continues to evolve for the industrial market; however, (Adrian, 21) there are several issues and challenges that must be addressed to ensure successful implementation for, Central Command's Alpha Company and Charlie Company. This paper discusses the development of wireless technology and standards for Central Command's Alpha Company and Charlie Company. (Andersson, 88) Key considerations for successful implementation of wireless Ethernet are presented, along with potential applications which will help the companies in communication.

Several wireless technologies and standards are deployed in order to solve industrial applications. To date, no single technology has been suitable for the diversity of application requirements. This paper focuses primarily on wireless Ethernet, a relatively mature technology, and wireless sensors, a developing technology. Information is also presented on enhancements to wireless Ethernet that will broaden its application space. (Andersson, 88)

There are numerous excellent applications for wireless which can suit this current scenario. Some applications have existed for a long time. One of the most successful applications is wireless Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), where wireless is used to economically communicate across long distances in process and utility industries. Cost savings are also achieved when wireless is used to bridge communication across obstacles such as walls and rivers. We will implement this system in the scenario of Central Command's Alpha Company and Charlie Company.

Another excellent application we might use will be Radio Frequency ...
