Introduction

One of the basic and once serving an important form of media is the newspapers. In the past era people uses the scripted papers in order to keep people updated about the daily actions, which are taking place in the nearby places and the world. The history of newspaper itself has very dramatic chapter that encloses the human experiences from the past five centuries. Previously, hand written newspapers uses to float in Europe, it was sort of newsletter which used to be spread around the business mans, merchants, traders, which was indented to pass on the information, and tells about the details of the economic and business news of the world. In 1400, the first printing of newspaper was done, that was in the form of pamphlets. The first newspaper in true format and standard was London Gazette which was printed in 1666.

Newspapers was the very popular form of media, since the advent of electronic media, people use to spread the information through the form of media, where the products and the trading was also done through this medium, where people publish ads, and detailed information about their products and company. It started off in the world where different countries were able to know about their neighboring countries and was able to know about the details of the rest of the world. For the people of that time it was the only form of media, through which people started marketing their products, and business. Later on many amendments has been done in the format of the newspaper, for instance broadsheet and tabloids were introduced, spaces were introduced for proper placement of ads, proper columns were introduced to place the news.

Newspaper challenged by Electronic and digital media

After the advent of electronic media, newspapers become the second most important media, and the first position was grabbed by television. Both the forms of medium have their own importance in the world of media. As the competition become fierce between the brands and the businesses. Thus, in order to cater the audience, the brands and the businesses plan the strategies and buy media according to cater the exact and appropriate target audience, as the introduction of technology, the readership of newspapers has been consistently declining, thus realizing this fact the media buying houses and the brand managers plan their strategies according to the fact, where they can cater larger audience, because again there is no free lunch (Media Asia, 2005). Thus, due to technological advancement, newspapers were heavily challenged by the electronic and digital media. There are many advantages that are only provided by the electronic and the digital media. Newspaper's biggest disadvantage is that it has limited time frame, as it has only one day life. It expires in the span of one day, thus, making an ad to be published by any brand would make it too expensive, as it has only one day life.
