Introduction

Reducing and eliminating all work safety hazards including diseases, illnesses, injuries and stress got dealt by the occupational safety. The basic areas of occupational safety and health include multiple areas of expertise such as social sciences, health sciences, statistics, safety engineering, ergonomics, and bio-hazard waste and control. (Pelley, 2008).

The employers should at all cost ensure and provide a safe workplace for the workers. Workers must be protected from workplace injuries and illnesses. The practical experience has revealed that effective safety and health management is the outcome of forming processes that deal with the multiple dimensions of safety within the framework of an organization system (Patrickson, 2001). Effective business running includes various factors that include creating and retaining the image, of a compliant, risk-free and safe workplace, that a company wishes to maintain.

The positive or negative opinions or exposure of how the company is being operated can change the public image of the company and may lead to potential financial crisis (Soediono, 2002).

A business concern should be cautious and careful of the regulation and rules that apply to their industry and other government legislations that an organization should comply in all circumstances. It is the responsibility of Human Resource department that facilitates in maintaining the compliance and making sure that all the business decisions are in total conformity to government regulations (Goldberg, 1994). A company should remain ethical, honest and responsible and should be respected for sustaining compliance, to avoid government penalties and harmful promotion that can ruin the image of the concern. (Lin, 2001)

Discussion

With the development and globalization of the world economy, the competition between organizations is becoming fiercer and more and more industrial pollution and production hazards are constantly threatening the health and safety of organization and its employees. Therefore, it is very important to recognize occupational health and safety management for organization increasing its productivity and enhancing its competitiveness. There should be an occupational safety system in place at every workplace, to ensure the effective running of the organization.

A system is a working together of various components forming a complicated entity. In the context of health and safety, systems are referred to as composition of environment, machines, and the humans, which work together towards a definite aim. (Sanders and McCormick, 1993:14)
