Introduction

First of all it is quite important for any organizations to conduct necessary training programs for the employees in the organization. Now in the case of this organization, there was a need for training programs to be conducted on the importance of diversity in the workforce. It was necessary because these days the diverse workforce is one of the most important things for the organization. The conditions that are there for the training program are quite clear to all the employees in the company. However some issues have arisen regarding their participation in the training program. There is a concern in the management that some employees might not be motivated to take training. Now the importances of the motivation theories have emerged. Two theories that are going to have value in this scenario and will play a vital role are Expectancy theory of motivation and Reinforcement theory of motivation. All these issues will be discussed in details in the upcoming paragraphs (Brooks, 1990).

Whenever any training program is announced by the company, they must be motivated to participate in the training because it is going to be beneficial for them in the end. One of the first theories that can be applied is the expectancy theory of motivation which is one of the things that business owners and managers have been trying to involve themselves for around for quite some time. In order to answer the question of motivating another individual to act is powerful indeed because it holds the key to motivating them. Even in today's society this question still has not been fully answered. However, the focus in this literature is the expectancy theory of motivation and the way it can be useful in the workplace. Expectancy Theory states that workers motivation is a result of how much a person wants a reward (valence), the estimate that the probability that the effort will result in the expected performance (expectancy) and the belief that the performance will result in the reward (instrumentality). In other words people want to believe they will be rewarded for their efforts and the level effort they are willing to exert is based on this belief of reward.
